We Recycle: At FARMERS WEST we believe recycling is good for the farm and the environment Green Waste is collected and composted. The recycled plant waste is added back into the soil and helps reduce water run-off and the need for synthetic fertilizers. All of our planting crates are re-used. Before each use they are steamed which eliminates the need for chemical fungicides and cleansers. We recycle all cardboard waste. Our shipping boxes are made from recycled materials. All of our flower sleeves are recyclable.

We Conserve: Water is a precious commodity and we do our best to use less and reduce run-off All drain water from our hydroponically grown Gerberas is collected and reused on other crops. We use less water, less synthetic fertilizers and have less and cleaner run-off. Sediment and drainage ponds catch run-off which reduces the risk of contamination in our local ocean estuaries. We implement irrigation water management practices to reduce water use and run-off.

We Innovate: Green solutions come from innovation and attention to new technologies We do our best to reduce chemical use on the farm. We steam our soil and planting crates which eliminates the need for methyl bromide and fungicides. Use good bugs to eat the bad! IPM (Integrated Pest Management) programs use beneficial insects, traps, light and temperature adjustments to reduce our dependence on insecticides. A specialized crop rotation cycle reduces disease and pest infestation. This reduces our use of pesticides, fungicides and synthetic fertilizers. We also use less energy as we do not have to steam the soil as often. Recent innovations in packaging allow us to offer bio-degradable or compostable sleeves and flower tags.
